Tamil and Hazara community leaders across the Reid electorate recently met with The Hon. Craig Laundy MP about getting us back on the #RightTrack.

Viji Dhayanathan writes:

We had a very positive meeting with Mr Laundy about the problems with the cuts to income support from the SRSS program for people seeking asylum who are waiting for their claims to be processed.

Mr Laundy said he was unaware of these cuts so we gave him a comprehensive briefing. We were also able to provide him with real case studies to show him how terrible this policy is, and how it will leave people with nothing to live on.

Our youngest member, 12 year old Preetikha, spoke beautifully about her own experiences as a child from a migrant background, comparing her positive experience of Australia with the struggles of Tamil kids who are here seeking asylum.

We also thanked Mr Laundy for his past advocacy for refugees and people seeking asylum, and asked him to take this issue up urgently in Cabinet, for this terrible decision to be stopped and rolled back.

Mr Laundy talked about cabinet solidarity but committed to following this up with Minister Dutton and reporting back to us. Thanks Craig!

#RightTrack meetings are happening across the country:

If there isn’t a meeting in your local area, you can organise your own meeting.

Local communities have been meeting their MPs asking them to get on the #RightTrack for people seeking asylum.
