Around 1440 people seeking asylum and refugees remain in the cramped and crowded conditions of our national detention centres, without proper protection or medical care.
An outbreak in these facilities would be disastrous, and would place greater strain on our healthcare systems. The government must release people held in immigration detention into appropriate housing with support, so that they can protect themselves and feel safe in our community during this crisis.
This is why the ASRC Advocacy Team is organising ASRC supporters all over the country to call on the Immigration Minister Alan Tudge to release everyone seeking asylum from detention. If the government gets lots of phone calls from people about this issue, it's clear evidence that they need to shift their policy.
The Advocacy Team will be running a training workshop which will equip you with the skills needed to mobilise key ASRC supporters. During this workshop, you will learn how to contact these supporters to ask them to call Alan Tudge and urge him to release people seeking asylum from detention - and then get calling!
What happens during the session?
- 1.30-2.30 pm: We will provide you with all the training and support you need to call key supporters.
