Please join me at a Snap Action Calling Party for the Afghanistan Crisis
We are all deeply troubled about the rapidly evolving situation in Afghanistan; Australia can rapidly implement a special humanitarian intake to provide safety for people, we just need our government to make it happen.
Join us via zoom on Thursday 19th August at 1pm-2pm AEST to make calls to demand that Scott Morrison provides safe passage for people fleeing the Taliban.
Barat Batoor, Organiser at Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC):
“Australia is home to the fourth-largest Hazara population in the world. There are 1000s of people in the Australian community who have family members at grave risk right now from the Taliban.”
The Australian Government must immediately implement a substantial resettlement plan, over and above the current intake cap, to evacuate and grant protection visas for people at risk of violence and death from the Taliban.
Canada has just offered resettlement to more than 20,000 people at risk and the U.S. is accelerating their visa application process. We know that Australia can rapidly increase our humanitarian intake, we resettled 12,000 people from Syria at the height of the conflict there and opened our doors to people from Vietnam seeking safety in the 1970's. We can do it again if we let the government know our community demands safety and freedom for people from Afghanistan.
Join us via zoom on Thursday 19th August at 1pm-2pm AEST to make calls to demand a substantial resettlement plan.
We will get together for a briefing, we will provide a script and list of contacts then we will all call together as a community of compassion.
RSVP now to receive the zoom link.
If we speak out now, we can provide a safe place for people from Afghanistan to rebuild their lives.
